Successful Meal Planning Like a Pro

Okay so, I am tired of cooking everyday. Especially when it takes forever. Then I figured, why not make a meal plan & then prep everything ahead of time? So I made an outline for weekly meal plans that I could fill out during the weekend (to get the printable template, please subscribe to my blog so I can email it to you, it really is super helpful!). It includes the "Meat(s) of the Week," daily meals to make with the meat(s), then a shopping list. Here is what we do... Every week when we decide what meat(s) we want for the week, we take a trip to Sams Club & buy in bulk because 1. It's cheaper, & 2. It makes a ton of meals! I wrote down a plan for us, which I will share it here.

Once a Month
·         Go to Sam’s & buy most of the meat in bulk (& whatever else we may need in bulk):

o    Chicken
o    Bacon
o    Salmon
o    Tilapia
o    Ribs
o    Pork shoulder
o    Steak

o    Also include eggplant, ground beef, & cubed steak, that DOESN’T need to be bought in bulk (can buy at Wal-Mart).
o    * = extras that can be bought in bulk
Once a Week
·         Plan out which meat(s) we will be eating for the week. Plan out meals to use with the meats & make a shopping list for extras (sides, etc.) that we would need.

Now this is only based on the kind of meats & sides that WE like. You can add more if you'd like. Feel free to copy this list! You also CAN buy ground beef in bulk & just separate it out, but I didn't want to do that. Now Juan has a smoker, so what he does is he smokes all the meat for me (chicken, tilapia, salmon, bacon, ribs, etc.) & when it is done we just divide it out. For example, this week we had chicken & eggplant. Our meals consisted of chicken tacos, chicken spaghetti, chicken quesadillas, eggplant parmesan, chicken salads, & whole chicken with sides. We kept TWO WHOLE BREASTS for the chicken & sides, then we shredded up the rest. The first night we had chicken tacos, then prepped chicken salads for lunch the next day. Then we had chicken spaghetti, which created enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day. Then chicken quesadillas (you can make extras for lunch, but we usually just like to stick with our chicken salads), then eggplant parmesan (eggplant usually makes a lot, so we had leftovers for lunch), then a whole chicken breast with sides (you can preserve extra whole pieces of chicken to take for lunch as well, but I am satisfied with my salads lol). You can also take your shredded chicken & make chicken salad sandwiches for lunches. For a whole package of chicken to last the whole week, it was less than $20 for 9 breasts at Sams Club. & they were good sized breasts, not the thin sliced ones. So once I made the meal plan for the week, I made a shopping list. & I made it while sitting in the kitchen so that I could look & see what I had already. Then when the time comes to cook the meals, the meat is already cooked, all I have to do is fix everything that goes with it!
